you did not just tell your readership about my ingrown toenail. in my defense, the toenail was healed quite nicely by lift-off time. it was the raging sinus infection (and the full-time job) that kept me NOLA-bound.

Heya hedgehog,

I used to have repeated problems with ingrown toenails until a college campus nurse showed me a neat trick.

From now on, when you are trimming toenails on the problem toes. always snip them so that they are lower/shorter in the middle of the nail and stick out slightly longer at their edges. This causes the nail to gradually grow toward the slightly emptier space in the middle, rather than toward the toe edges on the left and right.

Been doing this for decades and it has never failed. Always maintain that slight concave shape in the cut of the nail and you should never have the problem again.
