Sign of the times: The cops have cozied up to San Francisco's chief defender of the accused, Kimiko Burton, who's facing off against challenger Jeff Adachi in a March 5 election race. The unheard-of alliance between the public defender and the police union (which paid for the Potrero Hill billboard pictured here) has proved so perplexing to the city's legal community that one attorney recently mused, "I guess it's better than having crack dealers hit the campaign trail for ya, but not much."
