First, the Bad News

AS IF IT weren't already hard enough to get people to practice safe sex, the religious right is slyly spreading misinformation about the effectiveness of condoms in preventing the spread of STDs – particularly for women.

A press release recently received at our office from a group called the Physicians Consortium claims that a study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention "found no clinical evidence that condoms protect against herpes, chlamydia, or human papillomavirus."

In fact, the study says that research on those three STDs was inconclusive.

A few minutes on the Internet links the Physicians Consortium to the so-called pro-family groups crusading against adoption by same-sex couples and the teaching of evolution in schools. (Tali Woodward)
