Getting hot in a cold
city IT'S BECOME A municipal cliché to quote Mark Twain during the summer. Twain is famous for saying that the coldest winter he ever spent was a summer in San Francisco. And there's a reason why his comment continues to be immortalized on tourist tchotchkes and T-shirts. The city in summer is damn cold. Even in August, it's windy, foggy, rainy, and cloudy. Bright sunny mornings invite you to don tank tops and shorts and spaghetti-strap dresses, but by 5 p.m. you're screaming in agony as the chilly air turns your skin into one giant goose bump. Never fear if you're dreaming of a hot, hot summer, help is here. In our fantabulous annual summer guide, we'll tell you how to feel toasty warm on the ickiest of days. Get steamy at the Bay Area's many nude beaches (page 19), learn to grill (page 32), go on a sweaty, balls-to-the-wall extreme adventure (page 37), and warm up in a public pool (page 38). Dig into our summer guide to find out about all this and more! |
