DRUG CZAR JOHN Walters admits his federal antidrug media campaign aimed at youths is a failure, according to the May 14 Wall Street Journal. In fact, he acknowledged, the campaign which featured the Dixie Chicks and hip-hop singer Mary J. Blige, as well as actors posing as drug users may have even inspired some youngsters to try marijuana. But Walters still plans to ask Congress to reauthorize funding for the five-year-old program, which has burned up $929 million in taxpayer funding so far. (Daniel Zoll) |
