moon signs
May28 - June4

Folklore has some interesting suggestions for interpreting this week's lunar phases. During the weekend, consider the following as totally propitious (regardless of sun sign): buying a house, putting in fence posts, pouring cement, brewing beer, and making sauerkraut. Air signs, Aries, and Capricorns may, of course, attempt to do all that stuff. As for the phase, we're winding down from events that peaked in the last week of May. If you "turned a corner" on or around May 19, you're on schedule.

Wednesday, May 29 Waning moon in Capricorn, Mars moves into Cancer. Those two signs are in opposition, and with today's void-of-course moon, the theme is "clash between the sexes." (More Edward Albee than Nora Ephron.) Capricorns, you're as far from your 1996 life as you can get but improving on themes that emerged in '99. The little picture is this: learn to accept a compliment. VOC 4 a.m. to 6 a.m. tomorrow.

Thursday, May 30 Waning moon in Capricorn. Good day for a haircut (tried 'n' true versus "oh, let's experiment"). Capricorns, it's a good time for a vacation, because you may be having problems getting along with your usual crowd in the next month. Today this may be more obvious. Aries are willing to try harder in love matters (and just order two scoops of ice cream regardless). Taureans, be bold today and shy tomorrow.

Friday, May 31 Waning moon in Aquarius. New ideas, new approaches, new fixes. Especially for air signs, although Libras may find others are reluctant to go along this month. Aquarians, your idealism may tie you into knots, but solitary, imaginative work is you at your best. Leos, if you're feeling as though no one cares – you're wrong. If you feel as though no one cares to show their feelings, you're right. Sagittarians, read that first sentence again – just for you.

Saturday, June 1 Waning moon in Aquarius. Good day for buying electronics, sci-fi literature or games, or some kind of innovative technology. Which you can define as you will – hey, those eight-track tapes at the neighbor's garage sale were once the pinnacle of innovation and luxury. Choosing the tune you heard in your car – what freedom! Aquarians, are you overbooking and underperforming? Be good to yourself. VOC 1 to 4 p.m.

Sunday, June 2 Waning moon in Pisces. "But how do you really feel about the play, Mrs. Lincoln?" Yes, there's potential for hoof-in-mouth commentary – just try and see the humor in this. Pisces, you always complain I never tell you when the astrology is good – well, sweetie-darlings, it's excellent for romance, patronage, and persuasion all this month. Get cracking! This is also true for Scorpios, who may have a difficult time with conclusions today.

Monday, June 3 Last quarter moon in Pisces. A turning point for matters that climaxed one week ago, or that began around Mother's Day. But the void of course means that turn could be a backward one. Excellent for taking your time on artistic matters. Pisces, can you be amusing about all your mood swings? This is your time to giggle (and howl). Geminis, you may be fussier than you think. VOC all day through 4 a.m. tomorrow.

Tuesday, June 4 Waning moon in Aries. Spend your money on what you consume quickly – this isn't an ideal time for long-range purchases (particularly for Capricorns and Libras). Aries, you may have to say it twice if you don't say it nice, and you know how annoying that is. Leos, this week your patience gets stretched gossamer thin. Good thing your water-sign pals know how to calm you down. Sagittarians, take another look at your approach – is it the best?
