'i feel love'
Intersection for the Arts, June 24-July 15

PLAYWRIGHT ERIN CRESSIDA Wilson is one of the artists with whom Intersection for the Arts has developed a relationship that has helped shape the character and energy of the Valencia Street art space. Two of her plays – 1997's Hurricane and 1999's The Trail of Her Inner Thigh – had their world premiere at Intersection. The third – i feel love – is a collaboration with actor Sean San Jose, whose energy fuels Intersection's resident theater company, Campo Santo, and who has been even more important in energizing and sustaining the space in recent years. The play – San Jose is the only performer – is more than a simple collaboration between writer and actor: although it's described as a mix of personal narrative, history, and nostalgia, it's based on San Jose's real-life experience of losing both parents to AIDS-related illnesses (which inspired his mid-'90s Pieces of a Quilt project). In addition, each performance features live music composed by Josh Jones and Scheherazade Stone and played by the two, along with other musicians. Wilson is a strong, talented writer; San Jose is a remarkable actor. I feel love promises to be a powerful evening. Previews Thurs/20-Sun/23, 8 p.m. Opens Mon/24, 8 p.m. Runs Thurs.-Sun. and July 15 (special actors benefit), 8 p.m. Through July 15. 446 Valencia, S.F. $9-$15. (415) 626-3311. (J.H. Tompkins)
