Artiste management
By Amanda Nowinski

NORTH BEACH ON a weekday night is a completely different universe from the North Beach of frat boy-meets-Euro trash weekends. Low-rent strippers, haggard coffee sippers, wanna-be poets, and diehard drunks fill the streets Sunday through Thursday, making this the best neighborhood for ... shit, I don't know. I only have this to say: as the daughter of a permanent North Beach fixture, I feel I am qualified to warn you against anyone carrying a sketchbook. Trust me, everyone in North Beach believes he or she are an artist. Oops, I mean, an artiste. The trick is to sift reality from the bullshit while still managing to scam two cocktails and money for rent.

Tyler Stone is not going to pay your rent when you visit her Tuesday-night Wanderlust party at North Beach's Rosewood, but at least she's earned the artist title. This DJ, producer, and singer is one of the city's first female house producers, has remixed everyone from Crystal Waters to Everything but the Girl, and is waiting on the release of her newest remixes of Cajmere and Dajae's house classic "Brighter Days" and Money B of Digital Underground's "Wrapped Up." Catch Tyler belting it out on the mic at Wanderlust while her partner Patrick Hinds plays a sexed-up selection of "electro lounge" and "bossa grooves" (whatever that may be, I'm sure it sounds just fine). The Rosewood is slightly swank, so don't show up smelling like you've been at the Endup for two days straight.

Eklektic and Hektic have found a new home, which is extra-good news for the local drum 'n' bass scene. DMarie and the Groundscore crew scored a extraordinarily loud spot at Club Caliente (formerly VSF, formerly the Oasis) and already have an all-star lineup in store for this summer (see below).

Wanderlust. Tuesdays (Tues/11 with guest Ali Goss of Cosmic Flux Musiq), 10 p.m.-2 a.m., Rosewood, 732 Broadway, S.F. Free. (415) 951-4886.

Eklektic/Hektic. Thursdays (Thurs/6, Genome's birthday; June 27, Virus Tour with Ed Rush, Optical, and Rymetyme; Aug. 29 with Andy C and MC GQ), 9 p.m.- 2 a.m., Club Caliente, 298 11th St., S.F. Call for price. (415) 255-2232, www.groundscore.net.
