'House Special'
ODC Theater, Fri/6-Sun/8

ODC THEATER STARTS its fall season with "House Special," a program that draws attention to one of the venue's lesser-known endeavors: providing choreographers with residencies that offer low-cost rehearsal space and an opportunity to showcase their work in a low-tech environment. During the year choreographers can plug into the Pilot, Flight, and Double Feature series, depending on their level of experience. There are also the Sunday Salons, Migrations, and now – the newest addition – mini-residences. This summer Erika Shuch, Chris Black, Joan Bruemmer, Kendra Kimbrough, and Ken James and Cynthia Adams all took advantage of a one-week mini-residency, which allowed them to create, or at least start, a new piece. These choreographers (none of them beginners) couldn't be more different from one another, so "House Special" is bound to hop with ideas that will bounce off one another, hopefully with a lot of pizzazz. And to spice up the evening a bit more, a trio of ODC dancers will resurrect Brenda Way's Alvin Ailey commission Scissor, Paper, Stone. 8 p.m., ODC Theater, 3153 17th St., S.F. $15. (415) 863-9834.
