Grupo Krapp
Oct. 31-Nov. 2, Berkeley Repertory Theatre's Roda Theatre

FOR MOST OF us, Argentine dance means tango. Nothing wrong with tango, but there's more to that country's dance scene than legs hooking around one another. Cal Performances' Celebración de las Culturas de Iberoamérica – a new programming initiative – is taking a stab at offering a broader perspective on Latin American culture. This weekend, it presents the North American premiere of Grupo Krapp (yes, they did borrow the name from the Beckett play), a seven-year-old dance theater ensemble from Buenos Aires. They'll present their signature piece ¿No me besabas? (Weren't you kissing me?), which, with its inclusion of "acrobatics, boxing, acting, and dialogue," promises to be an all-around theatrical experience. The collaged score includes work by Rosamel Araya, Compay Segundo, and Fun-da-men-tal. Also scheduled is Río seco (Dry river), inspired by memories of usually not-so-idyllic family vacations. This piece features an original score, performed live by Gabriel Almendros and Fernando Tur. 8 p.m., 2025 Addison, Berk. $32. (510) 642-9988. (Rita Felciano)
