moon signs

If you go expressly to look at the moon, it becomes tinsel.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

I've pondered that line by Concord's sanest sage for a while. Was this comment prompted by a dinnertime visit by nascent nature boy Thoreau? Would he prefer you look at the stars? If you have any ideas, drop me a line at sally@moonsigns.net. In the meantime, this week the moon waxes again. The vibe promotes building, growing, and increasing. Try to do more rather than less this week, and even more next week. (Yes, that means save the shopping for just before the holiday if you must.)

Wednesday, Dec. 4 New moon in Sagittarius; Jupiter in Leo retrogrades until Feb. 22. Inspiration strikes, especially in matters relating to travel and ethnic take-out food. Sagittarians, forget the "inner child"; you're in service to the "inner infant" (crying and colicky). Virgos, (self-) criticizing comes easily today, and it won't improve your outlook. Aquarians, you may find the following is true for you in the next few weeks: weight is hard to lose. But today is excellent for StairMastering, even if it's just where you work. VOC 11:55 p.m. to 5:40 a.m.

Thursday, Dec. 5 Waxing moon in Capricorn. Practical solutions suggest themselves more easily during this lunar phase. You'll have a higher tolerance for tedium, systems management, and figuring out "who's responsible for that." Capricorns, look for loyal support from water-sign folks. Except Cancers – the crabs feel taken advantage of today and tomorrow. VOC 12:20 p.m. to 9:54 a.m. Sat/7. (Yes, that's an unusually long VOC.)

Friday, Dec. 6 waxing moon in Capricorn. The all-day VOC moon makes it easy to seem more decided than you actually are. Capricorns, it's an excellent day for daydreaming, especially in matters related to home improvement and outdoor pursuits. Taureans, you've entered a six-week period of "sorry, we sold the last one to the person before you." Don't take it to heart, and do explore options that cost less. (Today is excellent for bargain hunting, for example). VOC all day until 9:54 a.m. tomorrow.

Saturday, Dec., 7 Waxing moon in Capricorn/Aquarius. Everything that starts out serious gets very ... ethereal. Don't sign contracts or discuss figures until after the VOC is over. Leos, you want out of responsibility (but not glory). Aquarians, you could be surprised by intense feelings – we look at the water carrier as relentlessly independent, but neediness is today's theme. In the a.m., Capricorns, you could be drollness personified – make sure you have an audience. VOC until 9:54 a.m.

Sunday, Dec. 8 Waxing moon in Aquarius. Difficult moon and Jupiter plus Venus-Mars angle means that generosity isn't happening in the love department (except for sapphically inclined water signs and those Leos and Sagittarians with no sense of self-consciousness). Taureans and Aquarians, you are wearing a big flashing hazard light that only Libras and Pisces will take note of. (Aries can see it too, but don't care).

Monday, Dec. 9 Waxing moon in Aquarius/Pisces. The moon is VOC for much of the day, so you'll have to do it twice if you do it at all. Excellent day for socializing with folks who rarely cross your path. Air signs (especially Aquarians), you're on a treadmill that's getting faster and faster. Pisces, you are a victim magnet this month (not your fault), and you'll feel it plenty today. VOC 10:35 a.m. to 5:46 p.m.

Tuesday, Dec. 10 Waxing moon in Pisces. Finish the following projects: cooking something meant to stick around (beer, jam, fruitcake, annual report). Pisces, you may have insight into others' vanity – and just how shallow it is to gaze into the looking glass. Geminis, the urge will be to organize, organize, organize, but you'll keep misplacing crucial pieces. Capricorns, amour for you is better if you say less, though write all you like.

KEY TO SALLY CRAGIN’S MOON SIGNS
This horoscope uses the passage of the moon as much as the sun to provide a forecast, and thus it’s applicable to everyone. However, the specific signs mentioned in each day’s forecast are receiving special attention from the universe. Each week all 12 signs will be mentioned, usually more than once.

When the moon is in your sun sign, you are beginning a new 28-day cycle. During that period expect really wide emotional swings. When the moon is opposite your sun sign, expect difficulties with your preferred gender, authority figures, and your better angel. When the moon is in Aries, it opposes Libra. Other oppositions are Taurus-Scorpio, Gemini-Sagittarius, Cancer-Capricorn, Leo-Aquarius, and Virgo-Pisces. The moon takes about two and a half days to cruise through a sign.

Still with me? Finally, as the moon changes sign, it will sometimes become “void of course.” This means it ceases to make major angles to planets. Consider this a null time, and try to avoid business decisions until this period is over. If you’ve got to make a move, stay skeptical. But it’s terrific for making art. All void-of-course times are pacific daylight. Visit www.moonsigns.net for more information. .
