ANOTHER YEAR IS about to bite the dust – have you made your plans yet? Haul out the tux, shake out the sparkly dress, and consult our guide to New Year's goings-on, which include DJed parties, comedy shows, and even strippers, vampires, and football players. 'Bulletproof New Year's Eve Boat Party' Depart from Pier 43 1/2, Fisherman's Wharf; www.bulletproofsf.com. 8:30pm-2am, $65. Sail around the Bay with DJs Jeno, Mark Johns, Tom Thump, Toph One, Kevin, and George.

'Cake: A New Year's Extravaganza' Space 550, 550 Barneveld; www.vgevents.com. 9pm-4am, $25. Dance to Latin and urban DJs – including Ivan and Mind Motion, Dennis Gallegos, and Rene – at this huge party.

'Clift and Delicious Karma present New Year's Eve' Clift Hotel, 495 Geary; 775-4700. 8:30pm-2am, $100 and up. The Clift Hotel offers special dinner and room rates in conjunction with this party, which includes music by Donovan, Frenchy, Daymeetrius, and more.

'Construction NYE 2003' Club Bas, 383 Bay; www.clubbas.com, www.groovetickets.com. 9pm, $45. Miguel Migs, Ellen Ferrato, Terry Mullen, and other DJs spin at this house music party.

'Countdown-New Year's Eve' Cloud 9 Motel, 34 Seventh St; www.mixedelements.com. 8pm-4am, $100. Drink free all night long at this party, which also features eight DJs in two rooms, including Michael Anthony, Dj BaLi, Dimitris Mykonos, and more.

The Endup 401 Sixth St; 357-0827, www.theendup.com. 9pm-9pm, call for price. Got stamina? The Endup's New Year's Eve party lasts 24 hours and features DJs Adrian, Ruben Mancias, Alexander East, Charlotte the Baroness, David Harness, and more.

'Electric New Year's Eve' Big Heart City, 836 Mission; 646-0803, www.sfstation.com/clubs/electricprod.htm. 9pm-6am, $35. House DJs David Harness, Julius Papp, Franky Boissy, and Trevor Mijares spin at this party.

'Flavor NYE' Pier 23 (north of the Bay Bridge on the Embarcadero); www.flavorgroup.com. 9pm, $50. DJ Craze and Miguel Migs spin for house fans at this 11-hour party.

'Indulge' Harry Denton's Starlight Room, 450 Powell; 395-8595, 979-3031, www.sebastienpresents.com. 9pm, $5. DJ Bruce and guests spin acid jazz, R&B, disco, and house music.

'Industry' Jezebel's Joint, 510 Larkin; 345-9832. 9pm-2am, $5-10. Industrial-goth-deathrock rules this party, with DJs Fernando, Rabbitron, Mitch, Rick A Mortis, and Jezzebella.

Massive Selector presents 'Rebirth NYE 2003' Club Six, 60 Sixth St; 863-1221, www.clubsix1.com, www.massiveselector.com. 9pm-4am, $20-30. Local DJs rule the floor at this event, including Charlotte the Baroness, Rasta Cue Tip, Ms. E., J-Boogie, and more.

'Mystery Girl New Year's Eve' Gravity, 3251 Scott; www.groovetickets.com. 8pm-2am, $100-115. House and hip-hop dance tunes, plus an open bar, highlight this party.

'New Wave Eve' Raw Hide, 280 Seventh St; 675-LOVE, www.newwavecity.com. 9pm-4am, $15-25. It may be nearly 2003, but this party aims to bring back the late '70s and early '80s with DJs Shindog and Skip spinning new wave classics.

New Year's Eve featuring DJ Dan Sno-Drift, 1830 Third St; 431-4766, www.sno-drift.com. 9pm-5am, $65-75. DJ Dan headlines this party with Rasta Cue Tip, DJ Seven, Keebo, and DJ Solomon.

'New Year's Eve 2002 Extravaganza' Polly Esther's, 181 Eddy; 885-1977. Call for time and price. 1970s disco and 1980s retro tunes are on tap at this dance party.

'1984' Cat Club, 1190 Folsom; www.catclubsf.com. 9pm, $15-20. This '80s dance party features DJs spinning retro tunes, old-school videos, and more.

'Peach' Whisper, 533 Florida; 356-9800, www.groovetickets.com, www.peachusa.com. 8pm, $50-100. Live DJ and vocal groups Soulstice and IOS highlight this party, plus DJs spinning funky and soulful house.

'Planet New Year 2003' Cow Palace, 2600 Geneva; www.coolworld.com. 6pm, $40-75. This giant party features over 100 DJs spinning techno, house, trance, drum 'n' bass, and more.

'Qoöl New Year's Eve' 111 Minna Gallery, 111 Minna; www.ticketweb.com. 10pm-2am, $25-30. "Mr. and Ms. World Peace" will be crowned at this event, which also features DJs Mermaid, Scott Carelli, Memory Man, Spesh, and Ms. E.

'Resolution III' Ruby Skye, 420 Mason; 693-0777. 7pm, $50-100. Derrick Carter is the headlining DJ at this party.

Spundae presents 'Birth of a New Year' 1015 Folsom, 1015 Folsom; 431-1200, www.1015.com. 9pm-6am, $40-60. DJ Armin Van Buuren headlines this party with a 3-hour set in the "Spundae Starship" main room, along with a host of other DJs spinning house, '70s and '80s club classics, and more in four other rooms.

'In Bed with Fairy Butch New Year's Extravaganza' El Rio, 3158 Mission; www.fairybutch.com. 8pm, $15-20. "Gals, transfolks, and their pals" are invited to this bash, which includes a sexy show with strippers, plus DJ dancing and a sex toy raffle.

Mad Dog in the Fog 530 Haight; 626-7279. 8:30pm, call for price. The pub hosts a New Year's Eve party with DJs and champagne.

'San Francisco Bowl' Pac Bell Park, 24 Willie Mays Plaza; 947-BOWL, www.sfbowl.com. 7:30pm, $40. The first-ever college bowl held in San Francisco pits teams from the Big East and Mountain West conferences in a New Year's Eve showdown.

'San Francisco Symphony New Year's Eve Gala' Davies Symphony Hall, 201 Van Ness; 864-6000, www.sfsymphony.org. 9pm, $87-145. The San Francisco Symphony performs a program titled "Vienna Woods, New York Nights: Songs of Two Cities," followed by dancing, desserts, champagne, and more.

'Sea of Dreams 03: Fanta-See: A Transcendental New Year's Eve-olution' Regency Center and Avalon Ballroom, 1300 Van Ness; 864-1238, www.anonsalon.com. 8:30pm-4:30am, $65. Four ballrooms of music and entertainment – including bands Sound Tribe Sector 9, Lost at Last, and Rosin Coven and DJs Garth, Ellen Ferrato, Gavin Hardkiss, Laird, and more – highlight this Anon Salon party.

'2003: The Party' SF LGBT Community Center, 1800 Market; 865-5630, www.bacw.org. 8pm-1am, $40-50. DJ Page Hodel spins at this party sponsored by Bay Area Community of Women; proceeds benefit the National Center for Lesbian Rights, a nonprofit law firm.

'The Vampire Tour of San Francisco' meet at California and Taylor; (650) 279-1840, sfvamptour@yahoo.com. 8pm, $15-20. This New Year's Eve event – a spooky stroll through Nob Hill's haunted history – ends at 10pm, so it's a good pre-party choice for fans of the undead.

Bay Area

'New Year's Eve Day Party' and 'New Year's Day' Lawrence Hall of Science, UC Berkeley, Centennial near Grizzly Peak, Berk; (510) 642-5132. $4-8. Bring the kids to the museum for a New Year's Eve Day party (noon-2pm, with a New Year's toast at 2pm) or on Jan 1 (10am-5pm) for fun hands-on science activities.

'New Year's Eve Toga Party' Parkway, 1834 Park, Oakl; (510) 814-2400, www.picturepubpizza.com. 8pm-3am, $30. This New Year's bash hosted by Thrillville's Will the Thrill and Monica Tiki Goddess features a screening of Animal House, a costume contest (categories include "Biggest Nerd," "Biggest Jock," etc.), dancing, and more.

'New Year's 2003' San Ramon Marriott, 2600 Bishop, San Ramon; (925) 937-4744. 8:30pm-1am, $59-69. The Professional's Guild sponsors this formal New Year's Eve party for singles, featuring live music by Contraband.

'Clark Dick's Budget Rockin' New Year's Eve' Parkside, 1600 17th St; 503-0393. 9pm, call for price. Harold Ray Live in Concert! and Saturn V perform.

Galactic, Vinyl Warfield, 982 Market; www.cc.com. 8pm, $60-100. Headliners Galactic ensure a funky New Year's Eve at this concert.

New Year's Concert Englander House, 807 Franklin; 362-6080. 3 and 8pm, $15-20. Pianist Seth Montfort performs works by Schubert, Chopin, Brahms, and others.

'Teeze! A Tribute to 80s Hair Bands' Last Day Saloon, 406 Clement; 387-6343. 9pm, $8. Big hair and spandex take center stage at this Headbanger's Ball-worthy bash.

'Third Annual New Year's Eve Frog Out' Fillmore, 1805 Geary; 421-TIXS, www.ticketmaster.com. 9pm, $55. The Les Claypool Frog Bridgade bring their tour to San Francisco for New Year's Eve, complete with "eclectic midnight antics." M.I.R.V. opens.
