moon signs

This week Venus and Mars continue marching through Scorpio together. This conjunction encourages you water-sign people to get in touch with your feelings (yes, sometimes you need help). And same-sex partnerships among the fixed signs (Taureans, Leos, Scorpios, and Aquarians) have been peaking or troughing – nothing in-between. In short: Taureans, you feel like no one is listening; Leos, you're being divas; Scorpios, you're passionately vulnerable; and Aquarians, you're more daring (and independent) than usual. And this week's waxing moon makes everyone's fresh starts seem doable. Happy New Year.

Wednesday, Jan. 1 Dark of the moon in Sagittarius, the classic risk-prone lunar phase. I'll bet the number of my readers who wake up saying, "Oy!" and slapping their hand to forehead will be legion. (Let me know how accurate I am – I'm counting on you fire signs and water signs to get yourselves into trouble.) Happy New Year – Virgos and Geminis, it's a "nothing left to lose" kind of day.

Thursday, Jan. 2 New moon in Capricorn; Mercury is retrograde until Jan. 23. Capricorns, you may feel pressured to take the lead (which you'll do grudgingly). Those of you involved with water signs will appreciate how Scorpios and Pisces are willing to say it just like it is. Oh, and be patient with Aries, who aren't getting enough attention. VOC 9:23 a.m. to 3:42 p.m.

Friday, Jan. 3 Waxing moon in Capricorn. Miserly instincts prevail, but the better part of valor is generosity toward those less fortunate. Capricorns, today you can say yes and have that be a good thing. Cancers, no candor with coworkers – the "blurts" are going to find you. Taureans, work late rather than tomorrow if you want to keep building good relationships. VOC 4:56 p.m. to 7:56 p.m.

Saturday, Jan. 4 Waxing moon in Aquarius. Don't think the same old words will suffice – innovation counts in all forms of communication. When's the last time you wrote a rebus? Aquarians, you may need to spend money on unusual objects or devote energy to time-saving techniques. Geminis, get the words out this weekend rather than on Monday. Sagittarians, love is a thing of amusement.

Sunday, Jan. 5 Waxing moon in Aquarius. Today the resolutions can really be put in place, especially for cardinal signs (Aries, Cancers, Libras, and Capricorns). Aquarians, you may squirm at being pinned down or examined too closely, but you'll reserve the right to examine others, you bet! Leos, look longingly at air signs ("Why can't I have what they have?").

Monday, Jan. 6 Waxing moon in Pisces. Aimlessness abounds, as well as negative thinking. Sagittarians, you may be needlessly sarcastic (though you'll think you're being funny). Cancers, you're in danger of over-promising or buying the wrong appliance/gizmo/machine this month. But today you can put all those anxieties out on the table in a way that gets others on your side. Don't you love it when that happens? VOC 12:44 a.m. to 2:57 a.m.

Tuesday, Jan. 7 Waxing moon in Pisces. It's an excellent day for creating art, embellishing, or telling stories to get others off the scent. Pisces, you can take charge if you want to, especially in group situations; although being aggressive will prompt feelings of self-doubt, so go easy. Virgos, you could get tangled up in the "who's responsible?" game and then feel like you may as well fix it, since you brought out all the tools.
