Research Studies

DEPRESSED? Depression is a medical condition that may cause feelings of sadness, worthlessness, and helplessness, as well as loss of interest or pleasure in activities which were formerly enjoyable. This disorder is often treatable, but unfortunately, many of the medications that are used to treat depression can cause sexual dysfunction as well as other side effects. As part of the search for better medications, Dr Robert Dolgoff and colleagues at Berkeley Therapy Institute are conducting a study of an investigational drug. Our study will compare the effects on sexual functioning of the investigational drug. Our study will compare the effects on sexual functioning of the investigational drug, a marketed product, and placebo in patients suffering from moderate to severe depression. You may qualify for this study of you meet the following criteria: á 18 years of age or older á Suffering from depression for at least 12 weeks but not longer than 2 years á Currently having normal sexual functioning á Not in psychotherapy If you fit these and some other criteria, and you decide to enroll, you will receive study related physical and psychiatric examinations, laboratory tests, and study medication at no cost. During the 8 week study you will be seen in our office and you will receive $35.00 for at least one and possibly as many as 8 office visits.
