Fellow Travelers Performance
Group
Fri/27-Sun/29, Noh Space
THE ENERGY THAT
flows from the Noh Space belies the theater's tiny size. And when the intrepid Fellow Travelers Performance Group takes over the space this weekend, waves of laughter and tears will certainly roll out into the night. With their clearly articulated perspective on dance theater, Cynthia Adams and Ken James have enlivened the Bay Area for the last 10 years. Their work is smart, idiosyncratic, and carefully crafted. When they use a prop, it's exactly tailored to the work in question. They know not only how to use text but also how to project it. Irony and wit, staples in their toolbox, are used to explore and illuminate matters of the heart. "Unexpected Corners" presents a collection of short pieces created during the last few years. Included are Adams's savage yet lyrical solo The Beast, which premiered last year in Oakland. James's A Short History of Decay, inspired by the descent into the netherworld in Dante's Inferno, is part of an upcoming work titled The Inferno Project. Performing with Fellow Travelers are Chris Black, Julie Sheetz, and Andrea Weber. 8 p.m., 2840 Mariposa, S.F. $10-$15. (415) 621-7978. (Rita Felciano)
