Four legendary S.F. skate spots past and present

1. EMB – Justin Herman Plaza, Market and Steuart The most famous skate spot in San Francisco, EMB used to attract skaters from around the world. It was renovated a few years ago, eliminating many of its famous blocks and gaps. The closest you'll come to skating it now is on Playstation with Tony Hawk Pro Skater.

2. The New Spot – Third Street and Army The Muni bus terminal here seems to be far enough away from the general public not to merit police harassment. Which is convenient because the grounds seem to have been designed for skateboarding.

3. Pier 7 – Embarcadero Smooth cement and low ledges make this an ideal place for new skaters to learn and experienced skaters to show off.

4. Wallenberg – Masonic between Anza and Turk The playground of Raoul Wallenberg High School has four huge block steps perfect for doing grinds or jumping gaps. Students and faculty don't seem to mind, as long as you show up after school's out and avoid running into the basketball players.
