The Superlist Issue

THE BAY AREA is filled with treasure – and by treasure we mean anything from the swank, reservation-only restaurants to the falafel joints and taco trucks, the local fashion designers to the box of free stuff at CELLspace. There's no shortage here of cultural hot spots, yummy breakfast places, hole-in-the-wall bars, and escapes to the great outdoors, not to mention cool classes, cheap evenings out, rewarding ways to get your daily dose of physical exertion, and other modes of entertainment and enlightenment. The hard part, really, is keeping track of all your options.

Way back in 1980 we ran our first Superlist, a complete rundown of the Bay Area's public astrological observatories, and we've been publishing them ever since with a few simple goals. Picking subjects you might want at your fingertips but won't necessarily find in the phone book, we track down every last all-night restaurant, amateur strip night, or public craft group and make sure the information is up-to-the-minute correct, something you can't necessarily count on with online resources. This year marks our second annual blowout Superlist Issue, which could be the answer to all your questions, especially if you're wondering where to find dollar drinks and free pool, try out new vinyl before you buy it, or learn about the anatomy of your bike.

We've gone to great lengths to provide you with the most complete, most accurate information in the following nine Superlists (accompanying microlists and random notations on life in the Bay Area don't claim to be super, but we hope you'll enjoy them all the same). If, by some unimaginable fact-checking oversight, we've left anything off these lists, let us know (write to letters@sfbg.com) and we'll rectify the error with a correction.
