A sour note The Jazz House (3192 Adeline, Berk. 415-846-9432, www.thejazzhouse.com), a nonprofit music school and performance space for jazz lovers of all ages, will lose its lease at the end of October. Director Rob Woodworth says that though its focus is on youths, live jazz music venues are so few that "Even professional musicians need us. It all comes down to the almighty dollar to be able to buy [property]." The building is scheduled to be demolished and replaced with a parking lot for the Berkeley Police Department. (Allison Raaum) Gold rush treasure Chinatown's Donaldina Cameron House (920 Sacramento, S.F. 415-781-0401, www.cameronhouse.org), a faith-based nonprofit organization that fought to keep young women from being sold into sexual slavery during the gold rush, is celebrating its 130th anniversary this month. Founded in 1847 as the Occidental Mission Home for Girls, today it offers domestic violence counseling for families, a food pantry, after-school programs, employment assistance, and cancer support for the neighborhood's multilingual, multiethnic residents.
