Fab rags
Let the scent of aging seafood lead you to Fabuloid (3386 18th St., S.F. 415-355-0400), located around the corner from a fish market on Mission Street. What doesn't reek are its stunning designs for women sizes 0 to 14, featuring simple retro blouses and straight skirts in sumptuous fabrics like silk, poplin, and soon French lace and Italian cashmere. Most items are made right here in the city, and creative director Michelle Mattera says, "We've been influenced by local artists, and we want to support the community." (Karen Solomon)

Night bloomer Amid neighbors' objections, Cafe Flore (2298 Market, S.F. 415-621-8579) has applied for a permit to expand its hours and offer live music. "Having entertainment in the evenings, especially in the wintertime, will bring more people in," general manager Matt Pausa says. If the application is approved, Cafe Flore will showcase local acoustic musicians and an occasional DJ, and it'll serve alcohol until 1 a.m. on weekends. A Planning Commission hearing Sept. 23 will determine the outcome. (Lori Musicer)
