In addition to its thriving gallery, the arts organization promotes public dialogue through exhibitions, publications, lectures, workshops, conferences, a library, a bookstore, and an internship program. Outside the lines Why cross the Westin St. Francis picket line when you can sleep soundly at the independent Hotel des Arts (447 Bush, S.F. 415-956-3232, www.sfhoteldesarts.com). Local guest artists Sam Flores and Brian Barneclo got to unleash their unique talents and paint murals in the rooms, while the works of other local artists hang in the lobby and gallery, adding life and originality where the Westin has bad wallpaper.
