Selling the blues After a labor-intensive, successful revival of Oakland's historic Mile High Club (3629 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Oakl. 510-654-4549, www.oaklandmilehigh.com), owners Lisa Nola and Mike McDonald have put the legendary hot spot up for sale. Though a blues joint in the '70s and '80s, the club of late has become a "ghetto gourmet" supper club. "We're looking for a couple of young, energetic people with the perfect combination of vision and ability to step in and continue what we've built," McDonald says.

Family threads A family with a flair for fashion has opened Paragraph (654 Chenery, S.F. 415-630-0201) with the hope of luring more people to the Glen Park neighborhood. The store – owned by siblings Vanessa, Veronica, and Vicente Viray and their mother, Maria Viray – features men's and women's clothing, housewares, and accessories and carries a mix of established brands and Bay Area designers. "We felt that the neighborhood was a place where our business could thrive," Vicente says.
