BizTips Selling the blues After a labor-intensive, successful revival of Oakland's historic Mile High Club (3629 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Oakl. 510-654-4549, www.oaklandmilehigh.com), owners Lisa Nola and Mike McDonald have put the legendary hot spot up for sale. Though a blues joint in the '70s and '80s, the club of late has become a "ghetto gourmet" supper club. "We're looking for a couple of young, energetic people with the perfect combination of vision and ability to step in and continue what we've built," McDonald says. Family threads A family with a flair for fashion has opened Paragraph (654 Chenery, S.F. 415-630-0201) with the hope of luring more people to the Glen Park neighborhood. The store owned by siblings Vanessa, Veronica, and Vicente Viray and their mother, Maria Viray features men's and women's clothing, housewares, and accessories and carries a mix of established brands and Bay Area designers. "We felt that the neighborhood was a place where our business could thrive," Vicente says. Lori Musicer Got a tip? E-mail biztips@sfbg.com. |
