Pins and needles After a quarter century of teaching, the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (555 De Haro, S.F. 415-282-7600, www.actcm.edu) celebrates the opening of its Pioneer Square campus. Its gift to the public is free clinics staffed by ACTCM students and practitioners, held several times a week at various locations. ACTCM dean JoAnn Vandenberg hopes they will "make the community aware of ACTCM and what they do ... and hopefully get them to understand better what traditional Chinese medicine is."

New breed Last week the Marsh Theater opened its long-awaited Marsh Cafe (1070 Valencia, S.F.), which will host numerous community events, such as poetry readings and music and other small group performances. "We're pleased to finally offer this additional resource," café manager Johnathann Meier says. From 3:30 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. most nights, patrons can slurp juice, crawl the Web via free wireless connection, or nibble a sandwich.
