Solomon Burke Fri/18, Palace of Fine Arts Theatre HE'S MADE DO with what he's got for more than 30 years, and fortunately, soul pioneer Solomon Burke has had a lot to work with, most notably his fervently powerful and velvety voice, which has garnered praise from critics, listeners, and fellow musicians since his early days with Atlantic Records in the '60s. For Burke's most recent endeavor, Make Do with What You Got (Shout Factory), producer Don Was was adamant about adding musical touches, including a heavy dose of horns and organ, to draw connections to Burke's influential soul past (integrated noticeably on the title track and "After All These Years"), but the album avoids being a stale repetition of his former accomplishments numbers like "I Need Your Love in My Life" and "Fading Footsteps" have all the elements needed to keep Burke current among contemporary gospel, R&B, and blues rock artists.
