Right Brain Performancelab
June 17-25, CounterPULSE

HAVE YOU EVER been tempted to traipse into one of those ubiquitous open houses – even though you know full well that you could never afford either that particular piece of real estate or any other lot in the neighborhood? Well, this is your chance, and you'll get a show to go with it. CounterPULSE's new space at Ninth and Mission Streets is hosting the six-year-old Right Brain Performancelab in State of the Union/Anonymous Sources. The artistic (and life) team of John Baumann (he with an acting background) and Jennifer Gwirtz (she with a dance-performance background) present a work that is as woolly as it is topical. It's been a while since they have been seen on local stages, so their return is most welcome. For State of the Union/Anonymous Sources, they dive deep into their theatrical grab bags to look at the subterranean forces that shape our perception of the world, as delivered by the media. Performed by six actor-dancers, the piece explores boundaries that are divisive yet difficult to pin down. Fri.-Sat., 8 p.m., CounterPULSE, 1310 Mission, SF. $10-$20 (no one turned away for lack of funds). (415) 387-4812, performancelab.org. (Rita Felciano)
