West Wave Dance Festival ODC Theater, July 28-31 FOR THE THIRD and final week of this year's West Wave Dance Festival, the dancers are moving from the Cowell Theater back to the ODC Theater, which has been packed on a regular basis throughout the festival's run. Clearly the word has gone out about these celebratory, summery performances. Maybe the choreography has not all been first-rate after all, you take risks when you program premieres, which many of these works are but audiences have seemed willing to give the dancers a break, if for no other reason than that the performers' energy and commitment tends to envelop viewers like a friendly hug. The remaining two programs feature four world premieres each. Those of Program Eight are by Alma Esperanza Cunningham, Randee Paufve, Jennifer Wright Cook, and Kegan Marling with Jane Schnorrenberg. Finishing off the fest in Program Nine are Erin Mei-Ling Stuart, Nancy Karp, Kendra Kimbrough Barnes, and Heidi Schweiker. That program also features former Oakland Ballet dancer Michael Lowe's six-part Ghost, Life Unfinished, for Moving Arts Dance. Program Eight: Thurs.-Fri, 8 p.m.; Program Nine: Sat.-Sun., 8 p.m., 3153 17th St., SF. $18-$20. (415) 863-9834, www.summerfestdance.org. (Rita Felciano) |
