Pan cuisine After 13 years, Bizou has transformed into the modern-chic Coco500 (500 Brannan, SF. 415-543-2222). "I wanted to do something that wasn't as restrictive as the bistro model," owner and chef Loretta Keller says. Using mostly locally grown, organic produce, Coco500 prepares much of its Mediterranean cuisine in a wood oven or a la plancha (in a flat iron pan). (Chellis Ying)

Make waves Surfers can now suit up in the Haight. After purchasing their Ocean Beach store a few years back, Aqua Surf Shop (2830 Sloat, SF. 415-242-9283) owners and total surf nerds Aleks Petrovitch and Devin Dargell decided to move into a raw space on Haight (1724 Haight, SF. 415-876-2782) that they could renovate from scratch. In addition to choosing from a wide selection of boards, wetsuits, and gear, shoppers can browse through the best books and DVDs on surfer life. (Deborah Giattina)
