Janice Garrett and Dancers Dec. 1-10, Cowell Theater IN THE MID -'80s, Charles Moulton was the hot kid on the block, combining dance, acrobatics, and sports. Today, obviously, the idea is no longer new. But if you have never seen one of his precision ball-passing performances, don't miss this revival. You never knew geometry could be that much fun. 18 Person Precision Ball Passing is receiving its local premiere as part of Janice Garrett and Dancers' latest home season. As a choreographer, Garrett's work is witty and warm, exuberant and edgy. The dancing looks spontaneous; it is anything but. One of this gifted artist's most appealing assets is a musicality that makes her choreography not only delicious to watch, but also to listen to. The two new works in this program are good cases in point. Fast Brass is set to Gypsy music by a Romanian brass band; the other, as-yet-untitled new work is a collaboration with Bay Area cellist-composer Moses Sedler. Path on the Rug (2004) and the glorious Ostinato (2002) complete the evening. Thurs.-Sat., 8 p.m., Fort Mason Center, Marina at Laguna, SF. $18-$25. (415) 345-7575. (Rita Felciano) |
