SELDA
Vuruldik Ey Halkim Unutma Bizi
(Turkuola/World Psychedelia)

Holy Anatolian. This banned, and until now rare, 1975 second album by the gripping and still rabble-rousing Turkish protest vocalist Selda Bagcan, backed at times by the very groovy psychedelic rockers of Mogollar, is considered one of the best from her region and, indeed, her country. (It has been rereleased with eight just-as-wonderful bonus tracks of early singles.). I can believe it. For those besotted with the posi-psych of Dungen and the power croon of Umm Kulthum. TONY GILKYSON

Goodbye Guitar
(Rolling Sea)

Country-rockers with raspy voices may be a common breed, but ex-X guitarist Tony Gilkyson's appealing new CD – which features an array of folksy instruments, including Hammond organ and pedal steel guitar – has an easygoing, back-porch charm. Imagine that porch is a few doors down from the punk club. The Woody Guthrie cover "Old Cracked Looking Glass" is a toe-tapping standout. (Cheryl Eddy)
