Monster Drawing RallyLIVE ART When I was 12 years old, my sixth-grade class voted my illustration of the Creature from the Black Lagoon swallowing a fuzzy laser beast as "most likely to be hung on a flaming wall in hell." Unfortunately, my prized possession mysteriously vanished from our refrigerator door shortly afterward, only to be replaced by my sister with a painting of a pink owl. Though I find it difficult these days to replicate the masterpiece in its artistic nobility, Southern Exposure's sixth annual Monster Drawing Rally might be an avenue for artists who share a similar misfortune. The MDR features over 100 artists drawing their favorite monster during four one-hour sessions in the studio; spectators can purchase a sketch for $50 after its completion. (Chris Sabbath) SOUTHERN EXPOSURE Fri/24, 6-10:30 p.m. 401 Alabama, SF. $5 minimum donation. (415) 863-2141, www.soex.org
