New Orleans zine reading

READING Hurricane Katrina's aftermath left a bitter taste in the mouths of most Americans due to skyrocketing gas prices and energy costs, as well as the government's reluctance to be prepared to handle a crisis in the wake of a natural disaster. More than six months later, Katrina's victims are still struggling to overcome the loss of their homes and jobs, and a vast number have congregated in other parts of the country, including here in the Bay Area. The Rock Paper Scissors Collective is organizing a zine reading and book release for Stories Care Forgot, a compilation of zines focusing on the people and happenings in and around New Orleans. Published by Last Gasp and edited by Ethan Clark, the book features writing and artwork by 11 zine authors, most of whom lived in New Orleans during Katrina, and serves as a reminder of what that city stands for. All proceeds will be donated to the New Orleans Community Bike Project and the People's Hurricane Fund and will be split into two separate readings, the first in Oakland, at RPS, and the second in San Francisco, at Needles and Pens.
