star.gif Ammiano: Alert! Alert! Remain calm!

Today's Ammianoliner:

Alert! Alert!

Ammiano runs unopposed for assembly seat.

Remain calm. Do not panic. Lock all your doors and windows until told otherwise by code 8.

(From the home answering machine of Sup. Tom Ammiano on Monday, March l0, 2008.)

Personal note to Tom: Much better enunciation, Tom. Keep it up. And keep it up during the campaign. B3

John McCleary:

A Hippie Speaks

“Never underestimate the stupidity of the great masses of American people.” I personally did not create this opinion. It is paraphrased from a comment by H.L. Mencken, 1880-1956.
Whenever I think of, or say, this statement, it makes me feel uncomfortable--almost, but not quite unpatriotic…and yet I know that it is true. We are like a big, stupid Dalmatian puppy that doesn’t mean any harm yet knocks everyone else down with its misguided enthusiasm.
There is something about the physical, cultural and human makeup of the United States of America that makes us the best and worst people in the world. This dichotomy is also the most basic makeup of all humanity. We have the right intentions, sometimes for the wrong reasons, and often without considering the consequences.
The Democratic Party, for all the right reasons, is self-destructing. In the interest of fair play, it is running a woman or a young black man for president. The Republican Party, in some smoke-filled room, decided that John McCain was the most electable person for their agenda.
Unless the majority of the American public suddenly comes to its senses and realizes that another 8 years of the Republican “dynasty” will destroy this world, then I think McCain is going to be our next ruler.
Gore could beat him, Edwards could beat him. Obama and Clinton, though either of them would be a better shepherd of this country, cannot beat McCain due to the current mentality in America.

The same old “irrationale” is coming from this Republican administration as came from our government during the Vietnam War. They do not want to lose a war.
Of course, the definitions of lose and win are confused in their minds. And the designation of who wins and who loses is their fantasy. How much money do you think the Bush, Cheney or Rumsfeld families make each time a warplane gasses up or an American soldier dies? Even if we disregard the fact that this war was bogus to begin with, what is a “win” in this case?
“Know when to hold em’, and know when to fold em’,” and know when to be in the game, I might add. No one I know is going to win if this war goes on. Four thousand dead American youth. The only people winning are the CEOs of oil companies and military contractors.
In this war, where our government is pushing democracy in other countries and taking it away in our own land, we might win the war and lose the conflict.

John McCleary:

Do you know how many of those 3 billion other mother fuckers out there don’t have a clue what is going on? I’m not that much ahead of them. I just know that there is something going on.
