Catch the Seattle Times story on the ongoing meltdown at the Seattle Weeklyl. Another sign that Mike Lacey and New Times (now Village Voice Media) management are driving away staffers and changing the basic mission local alt-weeklies.
Here's how David Brewster, who founded the Seattle Weekly, puts it: Commenting on the old Weekly, he says:
"It's been about building a better city, rather than just reveling in how bad the place is."
That's not how New Times thinks.

The media consolidation continues. More and more small papers are being sucked up by these towering dinosaurs. They 'SAY' that they are only collecting, but I've seen enough of the corporate world from my days at Disney and Warner Brothers as a storyboard artist to not believe a word of it.
The trend these days seems to me to be a trend towards turning independent papers into entertainment rags, rather than the voice of the people. It's a sad day for the American press, at a time I find it more difficult to self syndicate a very left leaning political cartoon See it at www.whatnowtoons.com
