Man Man, oh, man.
Man, there's too much to do - you can blame it on Coachella for luring so many interesting acts westward.
MAN MAN
Beards, stuffed animals, and the sound of Philadelphia - this is what Man Man shows are made of. Man Man's new album, Rabbit Habits (Anti-), has also been touched by facial hair. Count on much instrument passing, a palpable sense of humor, and fever dreams revolving round cheesetofu sandwiches. With Yeasayer. Wed/23, 9 p.m., $16. Great American Music Hall, 859 O’Farrell, SF. (415) 885-0750.
RACONTEURS
A pretty fun rockin' time was had by all at the supergroup's last show at the Warfield. Consolers of the Lonely sound like the combo are up to their mad, sad old tricks. With Birds of Avalon. Wed/23, 8 p.m., sold out. Bimbo’s 365 Club, 1025 Columbus, SF. (415) 474-0365.
HER SPACE HOLIDAY
San Mateo rising! Suburban savant Marc Bianchi is back from holiday with a new album to come on Mush Records - and his first children's book, The Telescope, which was released in Japan. With Lymbyc System and Head Like a Kite. Thurs/24, 9 p.m., $12. Bottom of the Hill, 1233 17th St., SF. (415) 621-4455.
CRASH NORMAL
Nothing normal here - just some smutty, fuzz-strewn garage, made in France. The kind that gives a new meaning to the phrase coq au vin. With Sic Alps and Nothing People. Fri/25, 9:30 p.m., $7. Hemlock Tavern, 1131 Polk, SF. (415) 923-0923.
KUSF BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
It's that time of year again - and our fave SF college radio station has dreamed up a doozy of a show. With Wooden Shjips, Citay, and Jenny Hoyston. Fri/25, 9:30 p.m., $10-$20 sliding scale. Cafe du Nord, 2170 Market, SF. (415) 861-5016.
PLASTISCINES
What if a chastised Ramones came back as cute French girls bred by Parisian bobos with a knack for pop hookery? What if? Fri/25, 10 p.m., $10. Rickshaw Stop, 155 Fell, SF. (415) 861-2011.
BLACK KIDS
Shift your gears and put on the "Heartbrakes," entreat the Jacksonville, Fla., mob. The '80s may be gone, but its synthpop is far from forgotten. With Simian Mobile Disco and Cut Copy. Sat/26, 10 p.m., $20. Mezzanine, 444 Jessie, SF. (415) 820-9669.
PRE AND THE MAE SHI
The London-born Skin Graft howlers promise to mash it up with a revived Mae Shi (above), who recently played what must be a record 18 shows at SXSW this year and issued HLLLYH (Team Shi). With XBXRX and Tempo No Tempo. Sun/27, 8:30 p.m., $8. Bottom of the Hill, 1233 17th St., SF. (415) 621-4455.
BASIA BULAT
Forgive me while I stoop to a national stereotype, but ultrasweet singer-songwriter Basia Bulat proves that Canadians are the nicest people around. The Polish Canadian English grad student-on-the-run also writes a mean lil' singalong with a little help from her friends - and her younger brother, on drums. With Devotchka. Mon/28, 8 p.m., $19.50. Fillmore, 1805 Geary, SF. (415) 421-TIXS.
THE NIGHT MARCHERS
San Diego stomps onward - with songs like "Fisting the Fanbase" (above)! Past and present Rocket from the Crypters, Drive Like Jehus, Hot Snakes, Beehive and the Barracudas make a little night music that sounds as raucously life-affirming as Mission of Burma mixing it up with Flaming Groovies with boxing gloves, knives, and forks, as a zillion garage bands jeered from the sidelines. Yeah, that means they sounds good. With the Muslims and Nowheres. Mon/28, 8:30 p.m., $12-$14. Bottom of the Hill, 1233 17th St., SF. (415) 621-4455.
MINUS THE BEAR
The un-Bear-able slightness of being ignored. Well, maybe I exaggerate, but darn if the Seattle band's last LP, Planet of Ice (Suicide Squeeze), wasn't roundly ignored, though worthy of so much more. With Portugal the Man and Big Sleep. Tues/29, 8 p.m., $20-$22. Bimbo’s 365 Club, 1025 Columbus, SF. (415) 474-0365.
