The Nightwatchman in the film Berkeley.
This just in for Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello's people:
"Tom Morello's solo project and alter ego, the Nightwatchman, will play a San Francisco benefit for anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan, best known for her extended demonstration at a camp outside President George W. Bush's Texas ranch. Sheehan's son, Casey was killed during his service in the Iraq War on April 4, 2004.
"Says Morello, 'I have never publicly endorsed any political candidate until now. It is an honor to perform at Cindy Sheehan's fundraising event because I strongly believe she is the kind of uncompromising righteous voice for justice that this country so desperately needs. Her unwavering commitment to peace and human rights as well as her intelligence and fortitude are inspiring and stand in dramatic contrast to the lame parade of mealy-mouthed sell-outs and red state war-mongers we are normally forced to choose between.'
"Morello will headline the fundraising show for Sheehan at San Francisco's Fat City on Saturday, June 28, alongside Malcontent, an acoustic performance by Travis Bilenski, and a reading by Eric Victorino.
Raging with RATM: "Bulls on Parade."
"General admission tickets are $25 and there are a limited number of $100 VIP tickets available which includes a meet and greet pre-party. Tickets available at the door, pre-sale online at www.cindyforcongress.org, and at Cindy's Campaign headquarters at 1260 Mission, SF.
"Morello's mother, Mary, has been doing a radio show with Sheehan on the Axis of Justice Radio Network since July 2007, shortly after her announcement to challenge Pelosi. Axis of Justice is a non-profit organization formed by Tom Morello and Serj Tankian.
"Tom Morello's great uncle was the first President of Kenya, Jomo Kenyatta, and his mother, Mary Morello, founded an anti-censorship organization. Harlem-born and Libertyville, Ill.-bred, Morello graduated with honors from Harvard University in Political Science.
"His bands, Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave, have collectively sold 30 million albums and have won two Grammys; Audioslave was the first US band to play Cuba. In 2007, Morello released his first solo album, the hard-left, acoustic One Man Revolution, under the name the Nightwatchman. The Nightwatchman recently contributed a track to Body of War: Songs That Inspired an Iraq War Veteran. In spring 2008, Morello launched the Justice Tour, a seven-city, two-week tour spotlighting local activism and celebrating social justice. The tour featured Ben Harper, Slash, Perry Farrell, Cypress Hill, Stewart Copeland, Flea, MC5 founder Wayne Kramer, and others.
"Morello was named one of Rolling Stone's '100 Greatest Guitar Players,' at no. 26. He has produced artists as diverse as Puff Daddy, Indigo Girls, Joe Strummer, KRS-1, Wu-Tang Clan, Crystal Method, and Anti-Flag, and has scored such films as Collateral, Charlie's Angels, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, and XXX: State of the Union. Morello hosts the weekly radio show Axis of Justice Radio Network on KPFK Los Angeles and various syndicated stations. He was the recipient of the 2006 Eleanor Roosevelt Human Rights Award.
"Morello will headline the fundraising show for Sheehan at San Francisco's Fat City on Saturday, June 28, alongside Malcontent, an acoustic performance by Travis Bilenski, and a reading by Eric Victorino."

This is a good sign. The arts community does well to support the politics of civilization.
