Sonic Reducer Overage: Calexico, SEVA, Jose Gonzalez, We Are Wolves, and so much more

SW a-swirl: Calexico's "Crystal Frontier."

San Francisco can't stop, won't stop - as usual there's far too much to do, see, and hear. Here are a few worthies to check out.

THE GIRLS
Yeah, you heard me right: the Girls, man, the Girls. Meaning, the Seattle garage-wave combo whose perky song stylings have caught Spin's ear (much like SF's Girls, sans "the"). Wed/24, 9 p.m., $8. Uptown Night Club, 1948 Telegraph, Oakl. (510) 451-8100.

JOSE GONZALEZ
His handsome Veneer and haunting songs - we're smitten. Wed/24, 8 and 10 p.m., $25. Yoshi's, 510 Embarcadero West, Oakl. (510) 238-9200.

RA RA RIOT

String me along: the combo's fresh-faced song stylings on their latest Barsuk album slayed me further - this after their passionate performance at South By Southwest this year. Walter Meego's synth-pop poachings might also be worth a look-see-hear. With Princeton. Wed/24. 8 p.m., $10-$12. Rickshaw Stop, 155 Fell, SF. (415) 861-2011.

MATT BAUER
Much neglected, sometime-SF-based singer-songwriter Matt Bauer should be copping more acclaim - here's your chance with the release of The Island Moved in the Storm (La Société Expéditionnaire). With Adam Stephens. Thurs/25, 7:30 p.m., $12. Cafe du Nord, 2170 Market St., SF. (415) 861-5016.

DONOVAN QUINN AND THE 13TH MONTH
The Skygreen Leopard steps out with a deliciously delicate, Dylan-ish, folk-rock album (recorded with help from Papercut Jason Quever. The SF singer-songwriter recently got a nice shout-out from Magik Markers' Elisa Ambrogio in Arthur. With the Donkeys and Electric Jellyfish. Thurs/25, 9 p.m., $7. Hemlock Tavern, 1131 Polk St., SF. (415) 923-0923.

COLD WAR KIDS

Catchy - not at all like the chilly international relations of the Cold War or the throwback conservatism surrounding us today. Fri/26, 9 p.m., $21. Great American Music Hall, 859 O’Farrell, SF. (415) 885-0750.

DAVID CROSBY AND GRAHAM NASH AND OTHERS AT SEVA BENEFIT
After Shakey's recent doc, CSNY: Deja Vu, I'm keeping a soft, warm spot in my heart for the activist-rockers. This time Crosby and Nash come out - along with Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Los Lobos and Wavy Gravy - for the 30th anniversary fundraiser for SEVA, a nonprofit that has aided millions of blind people in Asia and Africa, assists with community self-development in Mexico and Chiapas, and formed the first American Indian-operated medical clinic in the country. Sat/27, 8 p.m., $75-$125. Paramount Theatre, 2025 Broadway, Oakl. (415) 421-8497.

CALEXICO
A gentler, poppier Calexico? Who would have it thought possible? The mad-skilled ensemble's latest, Carried to Dust, revolves around an LA scribbler around the time of the writers' strike of '07. Sun/28, 8 p.m., $25. Fillmore, 1805 Geary, SF. (415) 421-8497.

On the one: the Presets' "Are You the One?"

FOLSOM STREET FAIR
Leather in a lather...over Berlin? This year's lineup makes me dizzy - it spans the gens and genres and includes Shiny Toy Guys (5 p.m.), English Beat (3:45 p.m.), Von Iva (3 p.m.), Berlin (5 p.m.), and Presets (3:45 p.m.). With Victor Krummenacher, Bruises, Excuses for Skipping, D.I.E., Carletta Sue Kay, and more. Sun/28, 11 a.m., donation. Folsom between Seventh and 12th streets, SF.

PATTERN IS MOVEMENT

Dreamy proggish meanderings of interludes of unexpected loveliness - thanks to healthy dabs of Rhodes and mellotron and admirably agile drumming. With Okay and French Miami. Sun/28, 9:30 p.m., $7. Hemlock Tavern, 1131 Polk St., SF. (415) 923-0923.

BURNING SPEAR

The reggae icon has been keeping the fires toastin' for more than 30 years. With Massive Sound International with Spliff Skankin'. Mon/29-Tues/30, 9 p.m., $30. Slim's, 333 11th St., S.F. $11. (415) 522-0333.

PERSONAL AND THE PIZZAS
The Hoboken, NJ, combo knows what it takes - namely, Canadian bacon and pineapple. With Fred Astereo and Nobunny. Mon/29, 6 p.m., $5. Hemlock Tavern, 1131 Polk St., SF. (415) 923-0923.

WE ARE WOLVES
Wolves, Montreal? Do I smell 2007, or maybe even 2006? Gotta dig their tpindicular vids, though. With Phantom Float and Battlehooch. Tues/30, 9 p.m., $12. Cafe du Nord, 2170 Market St., SF. (415) 861-5016.
