PATTI SMITH
One of the most visually exquisite cinematic musings on a rock star, **Patti Smith: Dream of Life** arrives after a decade of filmmaking. Fillmmaker-photographer Steeven Sebring captures the silent Smith burning up the stage with her rarely faltering ability to conjure the spirits; communing with her children, baby-faced then grown; girlishly giggling and slow dancing with ex-paramour and former guitarist Oliver Ray; melting into the crowd at war protests; playing three-chord tunes with old friend Sam Shepherd; visiting William Blake’s grave with designer Ann Demeulemeester; and eating hamburgers with her elderly parents. Both Smith and Sebring speak at showings on Sun/19, 4:15 and 7 p.m., at Lumiere Theatre - and sign copies of the film's companion book. Then catch the proto-punk legend herself in action at the Warfield. Patti Smith: Dream of Life opens Fri/17 at Lumiere Theatre, 1572 California, SF, and Shattuck Cinemas, 2230 Shattuck, Berk. Also Smith performs Mon/20, 8 p.m., $25. Warfield, 982 Market, SF. (415) 421-8497.
