Is it just me or do the over-produced vocal stylings on A-Trak’s "Kilometer” remix resemble Justin Timberlake? Prepare for more heavy, dark, French synth pop from a stylishly hairy Parisian: Sebastien Tellier returns to SF on Friday at Mezzanine -- in a precursor performance to his part in Coachella's blowout weekend, where he’ll be juxtaposed with the likes of Calexico, Throbbing Gristle, and Paul McCartney.
Speaking of Sir Paul, Tellier looks a bit like a cross-hybridization of John and Yoko from the hair peace-bed peace, gurus in drag phase. A white suit outfit, scraggly beard, straight long brown mane, and oh-so-Yoko wraparound shades have never looked better combined on one person.
Is Sebastien Tellier a cyborg fusion of these two?

Yoko took wraparounds to another dimension in her wack-wonderful Starpeace phase

Without a doubt, over the top, is a befitting description for the highly oversexed persona portrayed in the Euro-sleaze video for “Kilometer.” The lyrics are chanted repeatedly in mechanical monotone, like a swinger’s mantra or perhaps a robot programmed simply for the sickest of pleasures. Tellier clearly has partied past sleep with a young bevy of beauties, and is still dressed in last night's clothes. Various lovelies in panties lounge around him adoringly as the dawn of the new day creeps in from the crevices of the windows. Innuendo rules the screen when foot-long hot dogs are micro-waved, dressed with a splash of mustard sauce. The whole crew enjoys a playful and carefree morning after, forgoing any walks of shame, embracing their sexual freedom.
There’s a whole slew of raunchy remixes on the brand new Kilometer EP. I’m really into Detroit producer’s Arpanet’s take on the track. He definitely demonstrates shades of Aphex Twin with female moans of pure carnal ecstasy. Arpanet strips the song of its lyrics and sticks to deep, dark electro beats, providing a soundscape that will get you dancing. Pure filth is achieved.
