![]()
1:42 p.m. (4:42 p.m. EST): The New York Times reports that Heather Ledger was found dead in an apartment in New York.
1:57 p.m.: Associate A&E Editor Cheryl Eddy gets a phone call with the news and breaks the sound barrier – and the newsroom calm- with her simple response: “What?!?!?”
1:59 p.m.: Assistant Art Director Ben Hopfer: “Well, I guess he’s not going to be in the next Bat Man.” Then, after some more thought, he adds, “Amy Winehouse is never going to die.”
2:04 p.m.: Duncan Scott Davidson, Calendar Editor, says, “I should probably know who this guy is.”
“Uh, Brokeback Mountain?” we ask him.
“Never saw it.”
“What? As in, you're so straight, you won’t even see Brokeback Mountain?”
“Hey, I want to see it. I’d even watch it with my dick in my hand.”
2:06 p.m.: A&E Editor Johnny Ray Huston notes, “The newsroom hasn’t been this loud since Anna Nicole Smith died.”
2:10 p.m.: We ask Senior Culture Editor, and resident gay-xpert Marke B., if he’s going to blog about the demise of HL: “I’m not touching it.”
