star.gif Titties on fire, fashion aflame

By Candice Chan

Flaming bras. Typically not my first apparel choice to strut about town, but after attending last night's Hot Couture: A Fusion of Fire and Fashion, put on by The Crucible, I am seriously considering it.

In its 9th anniversary show, the center combines work by local clothing and jewelry designers with impressive blacksmithing – fire-spewing tail spikes, anyone? – to create an incendiary spectacular which ensures that everyone gets a little somethin' somethin'. Think Cirque du Soleil meets Hades meets fashion week in New York.

The featured lines range from euro-inspired pieces by Antoniya Ivanova and Alexandria Von Bromssen to the exotic alternative stylings of Bad Unkl Sista. Keep an eye out for not only the accessory designers – particularly headwear – but also for the models as their burlesque-like presentation of the clothing is titillating and charismatic to say the least.

Other notable highlights include appearances by aerial artist Tiffany Parrish, enthusiastic gentlemen from Oakland Firefighter's Station 3, and ladies from The Nekyia clad in metal brassieres and leather loin cloths with their boobies afire. This unique show is not to be missed -- though beware: you'll be on your feet for awhile, as it's standing room only. Audience members must be 18 and up. Arrive a tad early so you can scope out the side exhibitions and stake out a prime viewing spot near the stage; then prepare for the joys of fireballs and fashion all rolled up in one.
