star.gif Fashion Hause: Couture for change

Style intern Chloe Schildhause talks trends and togs. Check out her latest installment here.

It’s been over a month since Obama-lovers and fashionistas gathered for “Fashioning Change: Barack Obama Fashion Show Fundraiser,” so it seems silly to talk about the event itself – especially since Obama won.

But it’s certainly not too late to highlight the diverse fashion designers who got involved with the cause. Here are some favorites, including some impeccably tailored, innovative, and classy looks.

Designer Erica Tanov’s gorgeous and timeless collection of coats and dresses could have easily come straight out of Jackie O’s closet. Models showed off Tanov’s khaki skirt suit, blossom pink wool coat, and champagne empire waisted dress.

GR. Dano’s collection of well-sculpted and architecturally pleasing, form-fitting dresses are perfect for the proper politician, while Vagadu, the fashion line from designer Joui Turandot, was a little funkier. I loved the mismatched style and use of fun floral fabrics, bright leg warmers, and intense use of patchwork, reminiscent of Oiliy.

An upcoming trend I hope to see all men sport is the scarf. Estrella Tadeo created sexy looks by draping male models in thin, woven and braided scarves in a variety of shades. Paired with a suit, pea coat, or cotton shirt, a scarf like this can elevate an outfit the same way a cool pair of shades can.

And lest we forget this was a political fashion show, I have to mention Cari Borja’s finale dress, an homage to Obama, as well as the models who wore face jewels spelling “Hope.” Luckily, now they can wear jewels spelling “Victory.”
