San Francisco Sheriff Michael Hennessey

"From about 1850 to 1895, the San Francisco police chief was elected. I think it'd be a very good idea for this city. It's a small enough city that I think the elected politicians really try to be responsive to the public will."

Love the concept of an elected chief of police !
Personally, I would vote for Fong, who has an impeccable record of integrity since she joined the force in 1977. Of course, she was a prime choice as a woman of color after the Fajitagate... Not the strongest chief, but a decent woman.
Hennessey, unchallenged, gets my vote !
Let's remember that thanks to him, female inmates can read "Our Bodies Ourselves" while in custody, which was prohibited prior to his decision.
When Maurice Campbell, director of Community First Coalition, was repeatedly scanned across his pacemaker by a City Hall sheriff in spite of his warning not to do so, which could be life threatening, our foundation wrote to Hennessey, who responded immediately with an apology to Campbell.
But continued use of Tasers at the sheriff's DPT? nah...
