According to a statement posted today, a gorilla has escaped from the San Francisco Zoo and officials have not yet located the animal. Here's video purporting to document the gorilla moving around the outside of the zoo.

That is totally crazy! I had heard that another animal escaped the zoo but I thought it was fake...until I saw the VIDEO! The SF Zoo needs to make some changes sooner than later!

Wow, the SF Zoo is going WAY too far with their negligence...
I have been reading about how they are spending so much money on marketing, the facade, etc and nothing on actually caring for the animals or building new facilities that can really accommodate these animals. No wonder the tiger jumped the fence...

I cannot understand that the richest state in the world is not able to provide badly needed funds for the zoo's upkeep and the zoo masterplan. SF Zoo just looks like it is in a financially downtrodden third world country. All San Franciscans should be ashamed of themselves and their Council who have let this great zoo slip in the last 2 decades.
I wish that SF Council would invest in zoo management, new exhibits and animal welfare, instead it has sat on the fence for years and watched its zoo go down the drains. The recent escapees are just a sign of how far SF Zoo has degressed from a mainstream modern institution involved in breeding programmes, conservation work locally and overseas and educational projects for the community. SF Council should put its money where its mouth is.

Jelle Boef:
The Board of Supervisors can't exactly do anything about it. The Zoo was handed over to a private entity several years ago. They claimed they could raise funds and spend money more wisely than the public entity that used to run the zoo. And look what's happened....

Am I to understand that the previous posters actually thought this was true?! My brother made better (and far more believable!) movies when he was 12!!! The SF Bay Guardian should be ashamed to run something this infantile. I understand they are helping Citizens Lobbying for Animals in Zoos and Ms. Bolbol push their ridiculous agenda, but this is really going too far. I sincerely hope the Zoo pursues legal recourse against this despicable act.

Surely the Supervisors can do something. The lease agreement with the Zoological Society is up in June...
The City can renegotiate that agreement and ensure that animal welfare is the number priority.

bezerk62, both videos are clearly beyond believable and this was no doubt an april fool's joke created by a critic of the zoo's operations. you made that clear, noting that your brother made better movies as a kid. this isn't exactly war of the worlds here, so perhaps we should all lighten up a little.
i've never met bolbol, but her day job, i hear, is working as a public relations flak, so she knows not to expect any reporter to carry water for her. and with a screen name like bezerk, hopefully you don't expect us to advocate your point of view exclusively, either.
happy april fool's.
