The perils of private wi-fiTom Ammiano, who was just up in Portland, alerted me to this. That city's ambitious plans to let a private company wire the entire area have fallen flat. The job is only one-third done. The company's out of money. It's a mess.
In other words, the critics of Mayor Newsom's old Earthlink-Google wi-fi plan were absolutely right.
