speaker.gif Woolsey endorses Leno

Just heard from Mark Leno that Lynn Woolsey, the popular Democratic Congressional Rep. from the North Bay, has endorsed him for state Senate. I suspect Woolsey, like many of us, has come to believe that, for better or for worse, this is a two-person race at this point between Leno and Joe Nation.

ELECTION REFLECTION:

Most likely, the only reason she supports Leno is because Joe Nation almost defeated Woolsey in her last election! Too bad he didn't!!!!!!

I agree that Woolsey is no fan of Joe Nation (although I am a fan of Woolsey). But the reason I think this is significant is that she chose Leno over Carole Migden. I don't think she has any personal or political beef with or connection to either of them; I think that, like me, she probably sees positives and negatives in both candidates. But she really, really doesn't want Nation to win, so she's backing the candidate she thinks has the better chance of beating him.

That's all.

Actually, Woolsey slaughtered Joe Nation by a 2-1 margin in the June 2006 primary -- where Joe ran against her because she was too anti-War.

But that was the second time he ran against Lynn Woolsey. The first time was in June 1992 (when it was an open seat after Barbara Boxer vacated it to run for the Senate.) In that race, he got less than 4% of the vote -- coming in 8th place out of 9 candidates.

After losing that race, Joe Nation ran for the Marin Water Board -- where he proceeded to do very little until the late 1990's, when he geared up to run for the State Assembly. That's when he proposed bottling water at Mount Tamlpais -- much to the anger and dismay of environmentalists up there.

Nation won the Assembly seat in 2000, and proceeded to be a part of the "Mod Squad" in Sacramento.

Reality Check:

"Almost defeated Woolsey"? Are you kidding or are you just working for Joe Nation?

soaby:

Woolsey has dual endorsed both Leno and Migden.

I still maintain that until Mark reverses his position of opposing Prop F and supporting Prop G, and develops a pair that will give him the stones to AT LEAST question Newsom's inhumane budget proposals, he should not be endorsed by any who consider themselves at all progressive.
No more cop-outs, co-option, and compromise, the lesser of two evils is still evil, better the devil you know.

whatareyoutalkingabout:

Tim can you please do a little research before publishing stuff straight out of Leno's mouth like this? Woolsey has endorsed both Migden AND Leno- checking Migden's website would verify this, or maybe even speaking to Woolsey herself.

This reeks of trying to justify your endorsement of the PG&E & Lennar candidate, Leno to the progressive community.

I am embarassed for you.

And I guess you retracted your statement about "Almost defeated Woolsey" because the comments are referring to it, and your removal of your fabrication (or just plain out-of-touchness) is considered unethical by these things called "journalistic standards".

Next time, leave your ignorance in print for all to see but CROSS IT OUT with strikethrough or say "Edit: Woolsey defeated Nation soundly." Maybe take a refresher class on Journalism to brush up on things like fact-checking and accountability. Thanks!
