Cindy Sheehan wants to challenge Nancy Pelosi , which is a fine idea, but she's having a bit of trouble getting enough signatures to make the ballot. I quote from a press release:
The percentage of "valid" signatures that the SF Department of Elections are allowing is getting lower and lower as we get closer to our goal.We turned in 1932 on Monday and they invalidated 49% of the signatures.
We turned in 425 yesterday and they invalidated 78% of them.
The thing about that, is that I personally checked every signature in that batch, and I came up
with a 55-60 percent valid rate.We figure at this rate, we need to turn in 3000 by tomorrow at 5pm.
HELP! HELP! HELP! We have 24 hours......
If you want to help Sheehan make the ballot, you can stop by her campaign office at 1260 Mission St (open 24 hours) or call 415 621 5027.

Don't support her if you don't want to, and I know a lot of people will be saying we shouldn't distract Pelosi who should be working to increase her majority in Congress. But I think Pelosi needs a challenge, especially on the war. Sure, this is a long shot, but it might do a little to keep San Francisco's representative in Congress a bit more accountable.

Eh, no thanks. The more you look into Sheehan's background and the people she associates with (Lew Rockwell, etc.), the more Pelosi starts to look like the lesser of two evils. She's successfully squandered a lot of goodwill and sympathy from her son's death, and this campaign will likely garner few votes and further consign her to irrelevance, I think.

While the Crunch for validated petition signatures is on-- Cindy obviously could not thank everyone who has helped--
Who else?
Truly almost everyone who has been abandoned or abused: especially prostitutes, transgendered, poor of all catagories and races-- my guess, everyone who would be welcome at the table of Jesus H. Christ himself.
And those who won't sign or help-- victims of fear. Fear that they, perhaps, could be homeless in 2 weeks.
Or, fear that helping an independent will make them "homeless" from the political parties and associations that validate their worldview-- but have in truth accomplished virtually zilch in the eight years since Bush first stole his first presidential election.
Well folks, Cindy has less than 2 days to get the petition signatures she needs. And irregardless, no one is going to Disney World.
There is possibly no other petition measure more important in this country at this point in history.
Help Cindy-- she gave the antiwar movement the shot in the arm it needed by reminding people that we actually had a war "on". She was made homeless-- when she realized Democrats (with guns to their heads?)-- were not helping her.
But the good times that blinded some of us were too good, weren't they?
How many of us, other than Cindy, had time to think and actually do something REAL about the bombs dropping on innocent families in the Middle East (and elsewhere)? According to Peter Phillips of Project Censored: A million Iraqis are in their graves-- with 10 X that number maimed or wounded.
Who, besides Cindy, truly cared about the flag-draped coffins coming home and the thousands of American casualties?
Since Inauguration Day, 2001-- all these years of questionable elections with no clear accounting!
Since september 11, 2001-- all these years of mayhem and horror!
For what?
ALL FOR LIES! WITH IMPEACHMENT "OFF THE TABLE"!
Get down to 1260 Mission NOW! God dammit!

Who in the world would want to give up having the Speaker of the House with years of experience on a diverse range of important issues for someone with an axe to grind on just one particular issue? There is no real Democratic majority in the House right now, so all this pissing and moaning about Nancy Pelosi is bologna. Concentrate on getting Barack Obama elected and more true Democrats (not Joe Lieberman DINOs) elected to Congress, and that will enable Nancy to get more done ... including getting our troops home sooner rather than later.
Bravo to Cindy for stepping up to run for a thankless job such as public office, but she just isn't qualified from what I can tell. We have an unqualified President with tunnel vision, and you see what that's brought us ... there's more problems in the America than just the war. Economy, for starters?

I'll be glad when this deadline passes so the Sheehan people will stop having an excuse to bother me in Dolores Park or at any large gathering of people whatsoever. Of all the stupid issues to put manpower into getting signatures for, dear god.

Sheehan needs to get locked back up in the woodshed.
Seriously, she's batshit crazy and needs to get over it.
She's been using her FUCKING DEAD SON'S name to further her phoney causes. She should be ashamed of herself.

In December 1966, when John McCain requested his first combat assignment in Vietnam, Barack Obama turned 5 years old and was enjoying the freedoms a child should enjoy.
As Obama turned 7, McCain had survived a burning jet fire on the USS Forrestal and had just flown his 23rd bombing mission over communist North Vietnam.
In 1973, as Obama reached age 12, McCain was finally released from a prisoner-of-war camp in the Hanoi Hilton.
At age 15, when Obama was still in high school, McCain became the commanding officer of a Naval Training Squadron in Florida. He turned a poorly managed military unit into a distinguished, combat-ready team.
When Obama reached the legal age of 21 and was experimenting with pot and cocaine, McCain declined an admiral promotion and ran for and was elected to Congress.
By 1987, Obama was a young man of 25 and McCain had assumed the office of senator from Arizona (after a successful four-year tour in the U.S. House of Representatives).
At age 36, Obama looked on as Sen. McCain was named one of Time magazine's 25 most influential people in America.
Whom do we choose as our next leader? Do we choose a man with proven military and political achievements, or a man with little experience other than a stint as a community leader and junior senator? Decisions, decisions!

The world won't end tommorrow if Cindy does not get all the signatures she needs.
But judging by the misguided comments from people who so thoroughly misunderstand the damage Nancy Pelosi has done and does by pandering to Bush's gang, who so thoroughly misunderstand who Cindy Sheehan is and what her campaign signifies, and who so thoroughly misunderstand the importance of having real choices in November when it comes time to vote....
San Francisco will clearly become a more souless and sad place if Cindy does not get the signatures she needs.
Bigotry and hatred-- pettiness and dogmatism should have no place here.

Go Cindy Go,
People help her get the signatures. It's either Cindy or Pelosi (no republican will win here). It will take a lot to unseat Pelosi but she needs to know that her cave-ins on the war, FISA to name a couple are not OK with most of SF.
I have heard:
"I like Pelosi" and
"I don't agree with Cindy on everything"
when getting signatures.
Pretty lame for SF
No way that she has gotten 5,000 bad signatures. You ought to be concerned about democracy being stolen from us if nothing else.
Of course murdering over a million Iraq citizens just to steal oil and maintain empire might bother some folks a little.
Please, help out; sign it yourself; get a few signatures from a co-worker; they need to be turned into Cindy headquarters by 3pm.

I can not tell you how many times I was approached by the same person to get a signature .. I do not live in cd-8 I live in 12 these crazy sheehanites pulled out a map to make sure that I was telling the truth ..

Greg H, Jaime, Travis, Eldon, rainah, et al.
No wonder we are in the godawful mess we are in.
I imagine you all probably voted for Prop G and against Prop F, assuming you actually voted.
One of the drawbacks of voting rights is that some people actually have the right to vote
Posted by Patrick Monk.RN | August 8, 2008 11:44 PM
My Patrick, aren't we two steps away from sewing a pink triangle patch on my clothing and sending me to some sorta camp where I have no rights. Democracy is all about people disagreeing until they come to some sort of compromise, in my opinion. If there's no push and pull, we'd just be a bunch of mannequins. I hope you vote ... I certainly will be as I always have since age 18.
Posted by Jamie Whitaker | August 9, 2008 01:34 AM
Wow! The argument that democracy can't work long term because the masses are incapable of choosing their leaders is alive and well here. The fact is the Dems voted for the war. Pelosi and company have done nothing since to reverse their decision. All incumbents should be voted out, PERIOD! Impeachment proceedings could have rendered the little moron useless until november, but nooo, it's business as usual. You people are debating witch bowl of sh.. stinks worse, pathetic! My brain tells me to find something better to do than vote, one chicken and two wolves voting on what's for dinner is the way I see it. We all know the woman who wouldn't know a good man if he fell on her. A vote for Cindy over Nancy would prove me wrong, lets hope so!
Posted by leon Johnson jr | August 9, 2008 06:31 PM
Jaime, at 65, oops no that's wrong, 64, and it was only yesterday, this getting older ain't for wimps. I hate to think how many votes, and how much bread I've cast upon the waters. In my opinion democracy is not served when a rogue corporation and a bunch of corrupt and coopted 'civic leaders' can spend $5 million to bamboozle a dupe a bunch of ill- and mis- informed folks into supporting a real estate scam that gives away precious public assets, city land, in furtherance of a phony proposal that will result in gentrification, displacement, ethnic cleansing and massive profits for a few.
When the time comes again for pink triangles, and it may be closer than we think, I, and my sweetwife, will proudly wear one and stand with you and the few of us left standing who aren't kneeling and shining the jackboots, and their numbers are growing daily.
Patrick.
CINDY FOR CONGRESS
CYNTHIA FOR PRESIDENT
SANCHEZ FOR 9
AVALOS FOR 11

Cindy qualified and she's on the ballot - This is so awesome! Yay!!! Nancy's gotta go and she's gotta go now. She threw away every chance she had to end this evil war and bring our boys and girls home. She's a liar only interested in protecting her power. She doesn't care about our votes, so why should we waste them on her.
Now, if only we could get Hillary back in the contest and Obi Wan Obama outta there. We may actually have a chance to take our great nation back.
Go Cindy!!!
