You Tube has already posted this parody of the Yes on 8 ad that features Newsom
By Saadia Malik
Mayor Gavin Newsom yesterday commented on the television ad urging California voters to approve Proposition 8 and reinstate the unconstitutional ban on same sex marriage, telling a small crowd of reporters, “The commercial was weak.”
The ad uses footage of Newsom’s May 15 speech to the jubilant City Hall rally that followed the California Supreme Court ruling that the ban on same sex marriage is unconstitutional. The ad claims that decision could trigger litigation against individuals’ personal beliefs, a move to revoke the churches’ tax-exempt status, and a push to teach children about same-sex marriage in public schools.
“Whether you like it or not,” is the Newsom statement that the Yes on 8 campaign turns into a mantra, associating it with their doomsday predictions about what same sex marriage will bring. At the end of the 30-second ad, the narrator declares, “We don’t have to accept this.”
Newsom sneered when asked about the commercial during an outside press conference at Justin Herman Plaza, saying “I’m not surprised they took comments completely out of context.”
“California will say no to Prop 8,” Newsom said confidently. “This is not a big issue anymore, from my perspective.”

If Prop 8 fails its affects do not happen in a vacuum, it will affect other aspects of life such as the school systems. It is not that we hate or want gays to be treated differently(you already have rights under civil union or domestic partners). Under California law, "Domestic partners shall have the same rights, protections and benefits"
When it passes it establishes the definition of marriage to only be between a man and a woman; just the same way that a PB and J sandwich(marriage) has to have both PB and J(man and woman) to be a PB and J sandwich(marriage). It can not have just one or the other(man and man or woman and woman) and be PB and J sandwhich(marriage) it is still a sandwich(i.e. civil union or domestic partners) just not a PB and J(marriage). This is how it was explained to me.
Thanks

Thank you for your comment Bronzel.
This video is, in fact, my creation and i appreciate that. I feel the same way, i did not experience anything more then the random homophobic violence and remarks in high school, but that is probably because i am privileged enough to call my self a Californian, specifically a Bay Area Californian. Much research has shown that in less accepting regions (*cough* the south *cough*) violence, hatred, and intolerance against LGBTQ youth is epidemic! I just hope the failure of proposition 8 will be a catalyzing even and send a message to the US and the world that intolerance in any form will not be tolerated. (i am intolerant of intolerance!)
to "texas" (thats actually pretty funny) i would expect that someone who has to have marriage described to him using a sandwich analogy would not be able to recognize the difference between domestic partnership and marriage.

In reference to the comment by Texas, regarding "Under California law, "Domestic partners shall have the same rights, protections and benefits""
So, heterosexual couples would forgo marriage and be satisfied to have their relationships defined as "domestic partners" so all Californians would be equal as defined by the California Constitution?

I support same-sex marriage and I oppose California Prop 8 amendment. We don’t all have to agree on gay marriages, as proof in fact allowing gays/lesbians to get married is not hurting anybody. “If gay marriage is hurting you or someone you know have died from the law being changed, please let us all know...”
Public school are not teaching children about gay people or gay marriages. Gay/lesbian parents are not telling their children that they have to be gay. Gay parents are no different than Straight parents. Allowing gay/lesbians to get married is not changing or erasing the holy bible verses out of the book. By allowing gay/lesbians to marry, is none of our business or right to say who or who cannot get married. We are all US citizens or permanent residents of this country and nobody should be treated like second class citizen. I believe all citizens should be treated equally with the same rights as others. Remember Jesus died for all of us, not only just for straight people, he died for gays/lesbians too. Gay/lesbian military arm-force people are fighting in the war Iraq protecting this country too. We didn’t eliminate interracial marriages into our state constitutional law, so why should we for gay/lesbian people..” I’m sure the bible wants people of the same race to only get marry too, but allowing interracial marriages didn’t hurt anyone and God saw it was ok. Just like same-sex marriages, it will not hurt you either, as God saw it was ok in those states that allowed it to happen or else with God’s power he can prevent anything. The bible has a lot of discrimination and prejudice verses written in it, but that’s ok, it was long time ago, how the way people who to live life. We don’t have to open our bible books as that was old generation years ago back in the days, as long as we all believe in God, that is all that matters! The law needs to be updated anyways with the new generation year 2000+ of today’s lifestyle living by erasing prejudice, allowing equal rights, turning sad faces into happy faces for all citizens. This is was Jesus had died for and what Jesus would have done for all of us including gay/lesbians equal rights too. Let’s make America a better place and number #1 in this world today in justice for all. Amen!
