speaker.gif Ken Garcia's wilderness

By Tim Redmond

Wow, and environmental issue that Ken Garcia can actually get excited about! The Examiner's house curmudgeon, who loves to beat up on progressives, is outrages that the supervisors might consider putting parking meters in Golden Gate Park:

Our fabled greenbelt is about to become a money belt. Our forested treasure is about to be turned into a treasure chest.

The idea of sacrificing the beauty of Golden Gate Park to feed the fiscal hole created in part by the mayor and the board is ridiculous. Planting metal posts in our parks is a crime against nature.

Um, sorry Ken, but the "fabled greenbelt" is already a bit tainted -- by thousands of cars that park along those "forested" streets every day. You want nature in the parks, fine -- I'm with you. Close most of the East End to vehicle traffic and get rid of all the parking spaces. But no, Mr. Garcia never wants to mess with cars; he's the most pro-automobile columnist in town.

He just wants people to be able to park in, and befoul, this urban treasure -- for free.

(And by the way -- I'm all for charging money for parking in GG Park -- but I continue to wonder how long those nice, juicy meters plump with coins will last when it gets dark and hungry, and every creative, folks start thinking about all that spare change.)

It is a shame that we all can't live up to the values of the progressives. We poor peasants can only aspire to the lofty peaks of the self appointed moralists down at the Bay Guardian. If only we could all live in mud huts again.

Perhaps its not pro-automobile but anti-authoritarianism that annoys people about the parking meters in the park? The progressives need for us live up to their dripping condescending standards, if we don't live up to these standards we need a law or a fee to encourage the right behavior? (This fee of course goes to some disenfranchised group) Or we should just ban the evil cars so that no one but the bonged out idiots on hippie hill can use it.

The Redmond logic...

"People dare to use the parks for something other than the progressive approved 19th century uses, I Tim Redmond's gigantic morality bone commands it"

As I don't own a car I have never driven in the park, but as a bicycle rider I love to show tolerance for my fellow man (even if they are beneath me and my superior values with their cars) and share the road with them.

Tim do you smoke a lot of weed and think about how great you are in a stoned out haze? When you go out do you have your Guardian accolites surround you and hang on your every breath?

Just wondering how you got so self absorbed to think anyone cares what your personal views on the park are?

You should probably put down the bong and get some non-sychophant friends.

tim,

I sent you a comment which you first posted and then deleted. What's up?

h.

glen matlock:

h - how do you know it was deleted? As Spiro Agnew once said, "these people who tell us how to run government couldn't run a bus line."

It's likely 50/50 not fawning enough of a post or web developer too bonged out.

h:

glen,

Reason I know it was deleted is that it ran for a number of hours and then disappeared. Same with another post I did on the helicopter controversy. I emailed Bruce direct to see if I'm banned but haven't received a response. Email me direct at h@ludd.net and I'll let you know what I hear. I'd hate to think that right-wing nut cases like you are welcome but left-wing nut cases like me aren't.

h.

We welcome all kinds of nut cases. We don't delete (or approve) comments or ban people. We're just having some technical glitches with the website.
