Guardian 2007 Election Center
Exclusive updates, profiles, and candid talks with those running for office this year

You may not have noticed it from the way the daily newspapers are covering local politics, but there are actually candidates - real candidates, with real platforms and positions and sometimes, thoughtful proposals for San Francisco's problems - running for mayor of this city.

Gavin Newsom is far ahead in the polls, and will almost certainly be re-elected - but the city deserves a debate over the issues, and Newsom isn't offering to participate.

So we're presenting a special elections forum, with info on every candidate, links to their web pages and a complete, unedited recording of our endorsement interviews. Check it out for yourself, post your comments and talk about the ideas. Also check this page for information about propositions, candidates for D.A. and Sheriff and other election news.
