Are you kidding me? Rizzo said he supports Chris Jackson for College Board after Rizzo took corrective action when Mr. Jackson was paid $500 for meetings he did not attend under Rizzo's management (a violation of State Law).

**THEA SELBY** (EVICTION ENFORCER)
Thea Selby enforced an eviction to move into her home. Anyone with ballz like that gets my vote.

Thea has the experience and the vision. Vote for Thea. She is the one to help SF keep the great city status that it is, will be and can be. She has vision and a voice of experience. No fear to make the right decisions.

Thea Selby? Like all the D5 candidates she has nothing original or substantive to say about the city's "smart growth" planning policies. Her campaign logo should be a smiley face. Like the Guardian, she supports allowing UC to rip off the old extension property on lower Haight Street. And the Market/Octavia Plan. And presumably the Rincon Hill highrises, Parkmerced and Treasure Island!

And of course she supports whatever the Bicycle Coalition wants to do to our streets on behalf of an obnoxious minority of bike people.

Much like the Bay Guardian, the D5 candidates suffer from a massive intellectual deficiency, which means that any one of them will be a suitable successor to Ross Mirkarimi.

I attended debates, talked to candidates, discussed issues, and I came away thinking that, surprisingly, Thea was the choice. She offered working solutions rather than the standard 'we need to build more affordable housing' or 'we need more jobs', etc. We need peace and love too, but without a plan, it will never happen.
The strangest candidate must be Everett, who thinks that more parking for the poor is the answer.
Great to read that Mr. Anderson is still knotting his TW's over his own fictional view of the world. Polluters in this city need a voice!

How can anyone in their right mind think that makes her a good candidate for district 5 which is comprised of mostly renters, like 2/3 I believe.

Someone at the SFBG needs to look into that, in fact, why didn't they find that out before they endorsed her?

Seriously concerned for the renter of SF! I will not be voting for Selby or Breed.
They are a danger to rent control.

On another thread last week, a Guest highlighted a few of the reasons why Chistina Olague should not be on anyone' D5 ballot:

Christina Olague...

(1) was part of the team that brought San Francisco Ed Lee, after she jumped ship from the David Chiu for Mayor campaign;

(2) voted for the America's Cup when she was still at Planning when it was still in the give-away to Larry Ellison phase;

(3) voted for 8 Washington (a multi-millionaire developer's and Port Authority's wet dream gusher);

(4) voted for the re-appointment of Michael Antonini to the Planning Commission (as anti-progressive a Plannning Commissioner possible);

(5) may have lied to the press about a conversation she had with Building Inspection Commissioner Debra Walker about a different conversation she had with Mayor Lee about the fate of Sheriff Mirkarimi;

(6) is backed to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars by Rose Pak and the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, (who already have very cozy insider status with Mayor Lee and Supervisors Chiu and Kim.)

Olague's work on the Planning Commission is most telling since over the past 8 years project after project after project was approved with her mostly joining with Anti-progressive Commissioner Antonini to approve hundreds if not thousands of condos for millionaires with very few public benefits.

I'm not a big fan of the tactics and tantrums of Chris Daly, but he knew how to negotiate against monopoly capital, winning substantial public benefits in the process, while Olague has laid down with the big landlords and developers giving them carte blanche to plunder and pillage the city on her watch.

Dear Congressman Pete Stark,

We want you to know that those of us who are mothers, grandmothers and other caregivers, some in your district and other parts of California and other states, absolutely support your re-election campaign and we urge all caregivers to join us in that support.

We want to thank you deeply for your heartfelt understanding of the difficulties that mothers and other caregivers have these days in raising their children and taking care of elderly and/or differently-abled friends and relatives. The years that women have had to put their child or children in some situation so that they can struggle to find a job outside the home in this very difficult job market, which for us has meant doing a double shift of low waged work outside the home on top of unwaged work inside the home, has taken a terrible toll on both mothers and children.

Your introduction of the Work Act (H.R. 4379) is historic. We were glad to find out about it and that if passed it will allow women and men who have no partner and who want to raise their own child, to raise their child full time up to age three and not be penalized under welfare reform (TANF). It will give our young children the chance to be nurtured and breastfed, which we know will help them be healthier both mentally and physically over their lifetime. As you know the destruction of Aid to Families with Dependent Children struck a terrible blow to single mothers trying our best to raise our children by further impoverishing us and forcing us to leave our young children in the care of someone else.

Thank you for so actively caring about all the people. So many of us are struggling with the problems of raising a child alone, with taking care of aging parents, with our own disabilities and illnesses. Please let us know, even with our meager resources what we can do to support your efforts and ensure that you return to the House of Representatives.

Would Prop 32 cause the unions to have to appeal to their members to win the confidence of their membership if the union wanted to raise money to advance their political agenda?

Perhaps Prop 32 might end up actually being a way for the rank and file to demand accountability from an autocratic and ineffective union leadership.

Perhaps labor leadership is scared that they'll not win that vote of confidence and shouldn't that be a problem?

There's an article on their website somewhere from a few weeks back if you're really interested in searching for it, but I suspect it's more of a rhetorical question. As I recall, his recounting of the groping event(s) didn't jibe with the observations of others who were present. Sometimes it's best to be over truthful when people ask us to explain bad things that happened rather than try to massage the truth.

He and some of his supporters obviously think very highly of him, but we'll see at 20:45 Tuesday what the D5 voters think. More flash than substance? A nice resume for someone starting out in life, but maybe fairly light for a supervisor in a major city? Does a long list of progressive supporters overcome the highly-publicized groping allegations? Will the non-stop news stories during the 10 month sordid Mirkarimi affair affect progressive voter ballots? After the Mirkarimi arm grab and Davis groping allegations do the D5 voters look for a female candidate in reaction to the bad juju male testosterone?

It's difficult to defeat an incumbant. Gonzalez did it in 2004, but unlike the candidate then, Olague has long connections to certain elements of the D5 progressive community, including Calvin Welch and the deep bench of the affordable housing industry, both of whom I'd always want on my side for an endorsement.

If Davis comes in 2nd or higher in 1st place votes, or finishes a strong 3rd or higher, he may have a future in local politics. But if he doesn't make it this time, it most likely will be eight years before the D5 seat is open again. By then the district will become even more moderate as rent-controlled apartments are converted to condos and the voter demographic continues to shift. Paying $1,500 for a room in a run down 3-bedroom NOPA apartment is one thing; paying 1/3 of a $850,000 mortage (plus $50,000 downpayment) is a different voting demographic.
