Johnny got it right at the end, and Tim agreed, but I'd like to expand a bit. What you are calling the mainstream media is also, just as important, corporate medial. Those corporate owners have a huge interest in what is printed, said, and shown, and it's very difficult to get anything out that is contrary to those interests. Corporate media is not friendly to corporate America, it's a large part of corporate America. In addition to making money for itself, it's main job is to propagandize for the rich and powerful. With that context, what the corporate media puts out becomes totally logical.
